Francophone Tribute to Biggles' Australian Adventures

The famed fictional aviator, 'Biggles', may be a quintissentially British hero, but his appeal was never confined solely to the far-flung borders of the long-vanished British Empire (of which Australia once considered herself a loyal member). Nor were Biggles' exploits limited to the numerous short-stories and novels penned by his creator, Captain W.E. Johns.

Evidence to support both these claims can be found at the French fan/tribute website, Biggles en Bande dessinée ('Biggles in Comic Strips'), which features bibliographic references for, and artwork from, the various comic book adaptations of Biggles that have been published in Sweden, France, Belgium, Britain and Australia (See the previous Comics Down Under entry on The Adventures of Biggles here). The Australian segment of this website, 'Biggles en Bande dessinee: Australie', features a partial list of W.E. Johns' stories adapted for the Australian comic book series, an incomplete cover gallery (a real bonus for collectors, given these comics are so rarely seen these days), and an incomplete list of the Australian comic stories reprinted in the UK by Strato Publications.
